CQI (Continuous Quality Improvement)

Competition is currently fierce in the auto industry. When quality performance shortfalls occur many new product launches are delayed or result in additional costs not identified in the original program quote.  Therefore, the principles and practices of CQI Core Tools are crucial to ensuring adherence to basic Quality practices and needs.   CQI Special Process audits help reduce spills, recalls, and warranty claims related to components from “Special Processes.” The Special Process assessments are developed based on best practices. They are meant to provide a means of continual improvement, defect prevention, and reduction of variation and waste in the supply chain.   Benefits of using CQI system assessments for special processes:  • Sound appraisal of an organization’s ability to meet customer requirements  • Align expectations between suppliers and customers  • Help reduce waste, variation, and defects • Increased customer satisfaction

CQI-9 Heat Treat System Assessment

Importance of CQI-9 assessment The CQI-9 4th Edition is a comprehensive audit covering the heat treatment processes. It is intended to provide a common approach to a heat treat management system for automotive production and service part organizations. AIAG is the publisher of the CQI standards (Continuous Quality Improvement). CQI-9 Heat Treatment System Assessment is a self-assessment of the heat treatment system and must be carried out at least once a year. This standard is an appendix to IATF 16949 under “customer-specific requirements“ and is valid for all automotive suppliers globally that have entered into a contractual agreement regarding purchasing, supply, and quality throughout the supply chain.

CQI-11 Plating System Assessment

Importance of CQI-11 assessment Plating System Assessment (CQI-11) is developed with the intent to help better evaluate the quality systems in place at plating shops supplying OEM automotive coatings such as zinc and zinc alloy electrodeposit, decorative plating applied to metal or plastic substrates, and hard chromium deposits, as well as electroless nickel and electropolishing processes. The objective of the assessment is to improve processes, improve management engagement and risk management and enhance document clarity. CQI-11 Assessment is a self-assessment of the plating system and must be carried out at least once a year. This standard is an appendix to IATF 16949 under “customer-specific requirements“ and is valid for all automotive suppliers globally that have entered into a contractual agreement regarding purchasing, supply, and quality throughout the supply chain.

CQI-12 Coating System Assessment

Importance of CQI-12 assessment This document specifies process requirements for an organization or its suppliers performing functional coating, who need to demonstrate the ability to consistently provide a product that meets customer and applicable regulatory requirements and enhance customer satisfaction through the practical application of the system, including processes for continual improvement of the system. The Coating System Assessment applies to sites where customer-specified parts for production and service are processed throughout the automotive supply chain. CQI-12 appendix to IATF16949 under “customer-specific requirements” is valid for all automotive suppliers globally that have entered into a contractual agreement regarding purchasing, supply, and quality throughout the supply chain.

CQI-15 Welding System Assessment

Importance of CQI-15 assessment CQI-15 Welding System Assessment is a comprehensive audit covering all variations of welding intended to provide a common approach to a welding management system for automotive production and service part organizations. This document specifies process requirements for an organization or its suppliers performing applicable ferrous and non-ferrous metallic welding. CQI-15 standard is an appendix to IATF 16949 under “customer-specific requirements“ and is valid for all automotive suppliers globally that have entered into a contractual agreement regarding purchasing, supply, and quality throughout the supply chain.

CQI-27 Casting System Assessment

Importance of CQI-27 assessment The CQI-27 Casting System Assessment provides requirements for foundry suppliers of castings. It creates standard process requirements for foundries that help produce a quality product across the supply chain. The objective of this system is to have robust processes which minimize the risk of casting defects in automotive applications. CQI-27 is similar to reducing the RPNs on a PFMEA — the lower the RPN values, the less likely customers will receive bad parts. Some of the requirements are defect prevention, and some are variation reduction. All impact quality metrics. Expectations of CQI-27 compliance concentrate on areas that are often the root cause of why castings fail to meet Product Engineering requirements.

CQI-29 Brazing System Assessment

CQI-29 Brazing System Assessment validates the effectiveness of Brazing processes throughout the entire supply chain. The BSA 1st edition is a comprehensive audit covering all variations of brazing intended to provide a common approach to a brazing management system for automotive production and service part organizations. The BSA 1st edition specifies process requirements for an organization or its suppliers performing applicable aluminum and stainless-steel brazing. Processes covered are CAB, Vacuum, Flame, and Induction brazing, and contain provisions for part print, control plan, braze quality inspection & reports, parameter documentation, maintenance records, sustainability, process monitoring, fixturing and tooling, and thermal management. This standard supplements IATF 16949 under “customer-specific requirements” and applies to all global automotive suppliers who have entered into a contractual purchasing, delivery, or quality agreement throughout the supply chain.
