Importance of CQI-27 assessment
The CQI-27 Casting System Assessment provides requirements for foundry suppliers of castings. It creates standard process requirements for foundries that help produce a quality product across the supply chain. The objective of this system is to have robust processes which minimize the risk of casting defects in automotive applications. CQI-27 is similar to reducing the RPNs on a PFMEA — the lower the RPN values, the less likely customers will receive bad parts. Some of the requirements are defect prevention, and some are variation reduction. All impact quality metrics.
Expectations of CQI-27 compliance concentrate on areas that are often the root cause of why castings fail to meet Product Engineering requirements.
